The Journey of Hungler Farm
From 1939 to today. Farm life has always been the way.
September 1931
John Hungler Sr. emigrated from Yugoslavia to Canada and worked in the mines in N. Ontario to make enough money to send for his wife, Josephine and daughter.
April 1939
The Hungler family moved to Kingsville and share cropped tobacco on the farm they would eventually buy.
June 1950
The farm was purchased by John Sr and Josephine. They slowly moved out of tobacco and into market gardening. John Sr. died in 1960 after which Josephine and family continued the work.
May 1974
The farm property passed to John and Josephine’s three other children and in 1984 three quarters of it was sold out of the family.
June 1979
John Jr and his wife Barbara planted their quarter section in apple orchard, an enterprise that continues today.
June 2022
Now, after almost 50 years, the orchard produces a variety of fruit including 17 varieties of apples along with peaches, pears and Italian plumbs.
